WE ARE……a bit obsessed
“WE ARE…..” can be yelled from any corner of our property at any time of year and a resounding chorus of “PENN STATE!!” will quickly follow. We are, without a doubt, a Penn State family.
My husband and I met at Penn State when he and my brother were roommates. (We try to rub that fact in with my brother every chance we get.) We both loved every minute of our Penn State experience, but especially love the alumni thrill that comes with graduation from such a huge football school.
Our love of Penn State football permeates to our house, our children and even our pets. Not a single football Saturday will go by without all five of us decked out in our blue and white.
Even before we had kids to dress up, we turned our cats into Nittany Lion wannabes.
As soon as we had kids of our own, we started our collection of Penn State clothes for the short people.
Halloween couldn’t go by without a Penn State football player and a cheerleader. (Okay, so we couldn’t override the Giants fan, but he just wanted to be different.)
Luckily, we’re not alone in our obsession. We try to make it out to Penn State again at least once per season with my college roommate and her husband. At these ages, we drop the kids of with their grandparents so we can go have some adult fun, but someday, we’ll let them tag along with us. You’re never too old to pose by a statue.
We are proud to say that we were there for JoePa’s 400th win.
When we are home, we throw a football around the yard before settling in to watch the game together. We don’t entertain much during the year, but football season is different.
We are a Penn State family. Are we a bit obsessed? Sure. Do we go overboard? Maybe. But if the family who plays together, stays together, then we’re in a pretty good place.
WE ARE……PENN STATE!!!!!
Outstanding! I live in a small South GA town (Bainbridge), and our high school team won last night against our long time rival (Cairo). Great way to start the season. And, of course, we are Bulldog fans. You have started a wonderful tradition that you kids will never forget. Way to go!
HAHA!!! You just described my in-laws perfectly! They are big Penn-Staters… especially my sister-in-law, and it permeates into every party, gathering, and nearly every conversation! I went to a small school called Lebanon Valley College and I feel terribly left out! Our football team stank and the only people that watched the games were those in the pep band! We have little to no alumni spirit… so I sort of hopped on the Penn State bandwagon too. Heck, I’ve been to enough tailgates that I feel sort of like an honorary grad! My son knew the response to “We Are!” by the time he was two, and it was a frequent trick at parties to get him to shout “Penn State!” with his tiny little voice and speech impediment.
But it’s great… team spirit is fabulous, and my son proudly dressed up as the Nittany Lion for Halloween two years ago.
Anyway, I’m stopping by to thank you for following Misadventures in Motherhoodand for your lovely comment! I didn’t see a GFC widget on your page so I’m going to follow you via Twitter or Facebook… as soon as I’m done writing this ridiculously long comment! LOL
Have a wonderful weekend… GO PENN STATE!!!
Smiles, Jenn

This is so cute! We dress our dogs up for the Packers games too 🙂
I think it’s fantastic. I wish I could say that we were as dedicated to Florida State.
