From Grind to Whine 
I just finished an EXCELLENT book called “What Alice Forgot”. I loved it.
Based on the rest of your lists I think you might like my all-time favorite: The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell, and it’s sequel, Children of God. I love getting book ideas from other people’s reading lists–thank you for sharing yours!

THE ROAD is dark; I liked it but it was hard to take at times. Tip: get it on audio; you can skip over disturbing parts.
THE GLASS CASTLE: ditto.
